How many books should I write in a year?
Why? As many as possible.
And what if the stories come, as always,
But I can’t find the words to put them on paper?
Just the way I want.
It’s been a long time since I posted anything on this site. Almost a year since my last book, Lost In You was published. It’s been a long year of starting, and shelving multiple stories. Most people know about Writer’s Block, and how it can make a writer unable to start writing, keep writing, or to finish writing… whatever. Well, sadly, that’s what I’ve been dealing with all year.
Early in the year, I outlined a sexy four-book novella series featuring a graduate student, a guest professor, some exotic dancing, and a lot of can’t-keep-their-hands-off-each-other. Next, a standalone romance set in a small town in North Carolina, followed by a sequel to Undeniable with Blythe Lockewood as the main character this time.
Being unable to finish any of these books has been very frustrating. The constant awareness that my books aren’t coming together the way I want, and that I have kept my readers waiting for months without a new book to offer, well, it’s been very depressing.
And Writer’s Block and depression is not a good combination. At. All.
At first, it was easy to feel sorry for myself, to get more depressed, to question my talent, and come close to giving up altogether, but I decided not to do that. I love writing too much, even when I’m finding it difficult. So… yes, I’m fighting for this.
I’ve been reading a lot about Writer’s Block, and one of the most common recommendations is to Just Write. I started doing that, and I’m glad to say that I have a book coming together, although I’m not ready to release any details yet. I’ll also try to stop hiding from social media, and do more to communicate with the people who make the writing worthwhile, my readers.
And if you’re a writer dealing with the same thing… this one’s for you.
Good News: Drawn To You was picked as a free promo by a promotion site called Bookbub this September, and many people loved it, especially over on iTunes, where all the books in the Swanson Court Series were iBooks bestsellers for the last few weeks. So Yaaaay! 🙂 And to all the new readers who find their way over here… Welcome!!!
Love & Hugs,
